Generations of Excellence in Catholic Education
Mrs. Maria Henshey has been a part of Catholic Education for most of her life as a student, an educator, and a parent. Mrs. Henshey obtained her teaching degree from Millersville University. Over the course of her 28 years as an educator she has instructed third through eighth grades. Nativity BVM in Media, PA is where she spent most of her early years teaching ELA and science. She then taught part time at St. Margaret’s School in Woodbury Heights, NJ which allowed her to continue to do what she loves… teach and be home with her children.
When Mrs. Henshey moved back to Pennsylvania in 2002, she accepted a 4th grade position at East Pikeland Elementary in Phoenixville Area School District. While there, Mrs. Henshey’s post graduate studies and work focused on instruction of explicit reading comprehension strategies as well as differentiated instruction. While the experience was enriching, she chose to return to Catholic Education. Mrs. Henshey was extremely fortunate to spend the next ten years at St. Cornelius School in Chadds Ford teaching sixth through eighth grades ELA, Lab Learner, Social Studies, and Religion.
For the past 22 years Mrs. Henshey has had the privilege of teaching ELA for seventh and eighth grades in the Summer Enrichment Program. In fact, that is what led her to St. Agnes. When the program was relocated to St. Agnes, she was greatly impressed with the vibrant school and parish and was extremely happy to join this wonderful community. Mrs. Henshey is currently in her 5th year teaching at St. Agnes School. She taught sixth grade ELA, Science, and Religion during her first four years. Currently, Mrs. Henshey is a homeroom teacher for seventh grade and teaches sixth through eighth grade ELA, and she is one of the ELA Curriculum Coordinators for the school.
Mrs. Henshey lives in West Grove with her husband, Jim, and their younger son as well as their adorable dog, Buster. Her older son, Tom, is a 2011 graduate of Bishop Shanahan High School and 2016 graduate of Penn State University. Brett, her younger son, is a 2018 graduate of Salesianum High School and is currently a student at Emory University.
