Kindergarten Aide – Yasmin Corrales
My name is Yasmin Corrales. I am married with three children. My kids attend Saint Agnes School since pre-k 4. My oldest son Nahar is in Fourth grade, Ajit in Third and Ekam in Second grade. We love Saint Agnes school because its mission is to develop every student spiritually, intellectually, physically, emotionally and socially in a joyful, faith-based environment that inspires integrity, leadership and service.
I was born and raised in Mexico. Fortunately, the school I attended provided foreign language classes which was English. Next, I came to the United States in High School. After graduating from Lodi High School in California, I immediately started college. I attended San Joaquin Delta College and was taking ESL courses which is designed to improve the communication skills of students who speak English as a second language.
I graduated from college and obtained my Associate in Liberal Arts and Sciences. Additionally, I also obtained my certificate by serving and completing the AmeriCorps Credentialing Teacher TRAC Program in which I had the privilege to complete 450 hours of service. Lastly, I earned my Child Development Associate Credential in Preschool.
My first professional job as a college student was working for the Mini-Corps program at San Joaquin Delta College as an ESL tutor helping students and parents with translations, interpretations and provided help with reading, writing, spelling and spoken language usage. Also, I worked as a math tutor at the math lab assisting college students with math problems and developing skills for word problems. At AmeriCorps I also got the opportunity to work with elementary school students. My work involved providing them assistance in reading, writing, spelling, language & vocabulary. I was helping kids with enhancing their skills related to sight words and letter recognition.
Furthermore, I worked for Lodi Unified School District in California as a Paraeducator working with Kindergarten & First graders. I was teaching them Math & English. I was helping kindergarten students with letter recognition, phonics and translating. My job also involved assisting First graders with their language skills such as spellings, frequent words, sound blends, and sentence structure.
Recently, I started working at Saint Agnes School as a Teacher’s aide for Kindergarten and First grade. In addition, I will provide skills and knowledge in order to teach the children Spanish.
I feel blessed and happy to continue learning every day throughout the years that I have been living in The United States. Community service came part of my life since I was a teenager and until now. I have participated in various programs serving the community such as: Reach out and Read, Mini-Corps, AmeriCorps, SARD Education Support Program for the Day Room at Saint Agnes, translating at the health fairs, Tutor-Creating brighter future for children, Make a Difference Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, and finally I am a Cub Master for the Cub Scouts pack 153 and a board member for Maternal and Child Health Consortium of Chester County in which its mission is to empower families to build a healthier and brighter future for their children.
