June 2008

Dear Parents,

Some of my favorite summer memories:  reading on the back porch, finishing a paperback on the beach and having another handy, walking to the library with my sisters to get a new batch of books.  I just enjoyed having more time to read.

As we move into the summer holidays, let’s encourage the children to read every day!  Reading is a way to explore new worlds, to meet new people, to learn about other people, to live vicariously through the characters in a novel.  Reading is a profitable and worthwhile hobby.

Each grade level has required reading and assignments that should be completed and brought back to school in the Fall.  Children are encouraged to read other books at his/her reading level throughout the summer months.  Keep a record of your books and authors.

The best way to get children to read is by giving the example.  Read the newspaper, a magazine, a good book.  Let your child see you reading.  Research shows that the best way to improve reading comprehension is to read constantly.  Read to your children – read with your children!

Go ahead, make some memories!  Meet new characters and enjoy a good book!  God love and bless you this summer.

Happy reading,

Sister Joan Felicia, IHM
Principal

Just a reminder that the required summer reading books will be available at the Barnes and Noble Bookfair on June 10-12 in Exton. Please use your Saint Agnes voucher for all purchases.
